The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 lets physicians demonstrating meaningful use of EMR by 2011 or 2012 receive payments up to $44,000 spread over a period of 5 years under the Medicaid incentives option.

Who is eligible?

As per the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), professionals that demonstrate meaningful use of EHR shall receive financial incentives from January, 2011. How much incentive will I receive?

The incentives given will be 75 percent of Medicare allowable charges for covered services furnished by the physician in a year. This incentive is subject to a maximum payment.

What about early adopters?

Early adopters are eligible professionals whose first payment year is 2011 or 2012. Maximum payment for early adopters in the first year is $18,000.

Are there penalties for not implementing EHR?
